About this game

1984: A Game of Government Management places you in the role of the United Kingdom’s Chancellor of the Exchequer, beginning in 1984 with real economic figures from 1982/83.

Your objective is to keep the government’s balance sheet in order, improve the country’s finances, and remain in office for as long as possible without upsetting too many people. During each year, you review sector statistics and make decisions on matters including the Minimum Lending Rate, wage increases, investment, Industrial Levy, funding, foreign aid, and Industrial Grants.

Cabinet meetings introduce questions about current incidents, adding further political decisions to the economic management. At the end of each year, the game presents graphs and a performance rating before moving on to the next year.
