Advance Wars: Days of Ruin is set in an entirely new world devastated by a massive meteor shower that destroyed 90 percent of the global population. In the aftermath, survivors have formed militaristic bands and fight over the remaining remnants of civilization.

Players take control of Will, a young military cadet who becomes involved in the conflict at the beginning of the game.
