About this game

Akai Katana is an arcade-style bullet hell shooter developed and published by Cave. Set in a world ravaged by the Empires’ pursuit of domination, the game follows a small band of rebels fighting against overwhelming odds and the feared Blood Katanas.

Gameplay

Players can choose from three ships, each associated with two characters: a pilot and a gunner or ninja. When the relevant meter is filled, the ship can enter Ninja Mode, transforming into the ninja character and replacing its standard spread and focused shots with two specialized modes.

  • Offensive mode: Fires an especially powerful shot.
  • Defensive mode: Reflects nearby bullets and causes them to home in on the player until Ninja Mode ends or their source enemies are destroyed.
  • Bullets from defeated enemies can turn into gold, circle the player during Ninja Mode, and boost the score when absorbed at its conclusion.

Akai Katana is listed for Arcade, HB MAME, and Xbox 360.
