About this game

Alcahest is a top-down action role-playing game developed by HAL Laboratory, Inc. and published by Square Co., Ltd. Released on December 17, 1993, it follows Alen through eight stages inspired by classic action-adventure gameplay.

Each stage involves finding items to aid Alen before facing a boss. After specific boss battles, Alen gains the abilities of one of four elemental Guardians. He can also meet five predetermined allies: the wizard Garstein, princess Elikshil, knight Sirius, android Magna, and dragon goddess Nevis. Although allies cannot be controlled directly, they attack and use special moves when their corresponding button is pressed.
