About this game

Alien 8 is an action-adventure game developed and published by Ultimate Play The Game. Released in 1985 for the ZX Spectrum, BBC Micro, Amstrad CPC, and MSX, it is a spiritual successor to Knight Lore.

Players control Alien 8, a robot tasked with keeping the cryogenically frozen passengers aboard a starship viable during its voyage. The game combines isometric exploration with platforming and puzzle-solving.

Alien 8 uses Ultimate’s Filmation game engine, including the image-masking technique used to build composite structures from stacked images without visual overlap. Written by Chris Stamper with graphics designed by Tim Stamper, the game was acclaimed for its graphics and innovation, although reviewers noted its similarities to Knight Lore.
