Arcade horseshoes game for up to four players

The briefing

About this game

American Horseshoes adapts the lawn game of horseshoes for arcade play. Up to four players take turns throwing horseshoes toward a stake across a maximum of nine innings, with each player making two throws per inning.

Gameplay

The standing cabinet uses a trackball and two buttons. The trackball positions the player horizontally and controls throwing distance vertically, while a power gauge and directional indicators help guide each pitch. One button selects the throwing effect—left, center, or right—and the other changes the throwing angle.

Throws can score up to three points: a ringer earns three points, a leaner earns two, and a horseshoe landing near the stake earns one. Players can choose from Diamond Dave, Lucky Lou, Mayhem Mary, and Tossin' Tom. An inning-end display shows the scores and a top-down view of the landing positions.
