About this game

In Amnesia, the protagonist wakes in a Midtown Manhattan hotel room with no clothes, no money, and no memory. He soon learns that someone wants him dead and that he is wanted for murder in Texas. His goals are to discover his identity, uncover what is happening, and set things right.

Explore Manhattan

The game includes approximately 4,000 locations, 650 streets, and the subway system. Its original package included a map and the X-Street Indexer, a code wheel designed to help locate cross streets from avenue names and street address numbers.

Investigation and Survival

Puzzles are primarily based on inventory and conversation, with many situations requiring the player to be in the right place at the right time. A simulated day-and-night cycle affects the city, including store opening and closing times. The protagonist must also find work, earn money, buy food, and secure shelter at night.

Progress is represented through three score categories: detective for plot advancement, character for interactions with Manhattan’s citizens, and survivor for staying alive.
