In An American Tail: Fievel Goes West, you play as Fievel Mousekwitz, a young mouse who becomes separated from his family during a storm while emigrating to America. After arriving in New York City, Fievel explores different areas, interacts with mice and cats, and searches for his family.

Once reunited, the Mousekwitz family continues its journey west toward the frontier. Fievel can collect and store items in an unlimited inventory, using them to solve puzzles and complete mini-games as he progresses.
