The briefing

About this game

Anno 1701: Dawn of Discovery is a real-time strategy and simulation game for Nintendo DS that makes extensive use of the system’s touch-screen capabilities.

Gameplay

Players begin with a ship carrying the supplies needed to establish a settlement. They can explore until they find a suitable island, then build a colony and satisfy the settlers’ needs as the settlement advances through successive stages. Each stage introduces additional demands.

In continuous play, players can choose up to three rivals who progress at roughly the same rate. Naval forces can be built to establish beachheads, attack military buildings, and capture islands by defeating all of their military structures.

Modes

  • Story mode: Complete specific tasks to progress.
  • Continuous play: Develop a settlement while competing with selected rivals.
  • Multiplayer: Compete with other players.

Developed by Keen Games and published by Ubisoft, the game was released for Nintendo DS on March 4, 2008.
