About this game

Anvil of Dawn is a solo role-playing game for DOS, developed by DreamForge Intertainment and published by Ubisoft. The player chooses one hero from five characters—two female, two male, or one lizard—and sets out to destroy an evil warlord.

Its pseudo-3D dungeons lead through varied locations, including castles and shipwrecks. Exploration focuses on navigating maze-like environments and solving occasional puzzles based mainly on switches and inventory items, while combat uses a direct action interface: select a weapon or spell, then click an enemy.

Character progression uses a “learning by doing” system rather than experience points, automatically improving skills as they are used. Further development comes from learning spells across earth, fire, water, wind, lightning, flesh, and void disciplines, as well as finding equipment and drinking potions that permanently increase hit and magic points.
