About this game

In Aquanaut, a diver must locate and defeat the intelligent leader of an alien race intent on destroying Earth. Humanity has traced the alien to an underwater site in the Caribbean, setting the stage for a three-level adventure.

Gameplay

  • Level one: A horizontally scrolling shooter where the diver uses a harpoon against mutated underwater animals while managing a limited air supply. Dolphins, mermaids, and military crates provide assistance, extra lives, or additional gear.
  • Level two: An underwater maze focused on exploration and puzzles. Items must be collected and used elsewhere to progress, while obstacles and individual enemies create hazards.
  • Level three: A maze set on land in Atlantis, where air is no longer limited. The player searches for a decoder and keys while engaging aliens in run-and-gun combat; entering rooms flips the screen.

Aquanaut was released in 1988 for Amiga, Atari ST, Atari ST/STE, and Commodore C64/128/MAX. It was developed by Fissionchip Software and published by Addictive Games Ltd.
