The briefing

About this game

Asteroids Deluxe is a more difficult follow-up to Asteroids, challenging players to survive wave after wave of rotating asteroids, UFOs, and pursuing Killer Satellites.

Gameplay

The ship replaces hyperspace with shields: a protective barrier that works only while the button is held and gradually depletes with use. It can accelerate twice as quickly as the original ship, while automatic fire allows up to four shots on screen at once.

UFOs feature improved firing accuracy, wrap-around shots, and immediate attacks when entering the screen. Killer Satellites break into three Diamonds when hit, and each Diamond can split into two pursuing Sharks or Wedges.

Versions

The game has an original version and a revised version with easier gameplay. The first Killer Satellite appears near the end of the second wave in the original release, while the revised version introduces it near the end of the first wave and has it move more slowly.
