A fuel-limited arcade shooter from Data East

The briefing

About this game

Astro Fighter is a scrolling arcade shooter in which players battle through four successive waves of attacking craft before reaching a refueling stage. The cycle then repeats at increasing difficulty.

Fuel management is central to the game: players must eliminate each wave efficiently and shoot the “GS” ship to refuel. Missiles and bombs must be avoided, while precise shooting can earn additional bonuses.

  • Starts with 3 lives
  • Bonus life awarded at 5000 points
  • 300 points for shooting each group of 6 falling bombs
  • 950 points for hitting the GS ship accurately on the first shot
  • 10,000-point bonus for clearing four waves and refueling with exactly two shots more than the minimum

Astro Fighter was developed and published by Data East and released in 1978 for Arcade, HB MAME, and the Texas Instruments TI 99-4A.
