The briefing

About this game

Batsugun is a military-themed vertical shoot-'em-up developed by Toaplan and released in arcades in 1992. It is regarded as one of the earliest manic, or “bullet hell,” shooters.

Players choose from three weapons for their plane at the beginning of the game. Weapon upgrades are earned through experience points gained by destroying enemies, rather than through dropped power-ups.

Versions

The Sega Saturn version combines the two revisions of the arcade game, including Batsugun Special Version, which had been completed but was not released in arcades. The Saturn adaptation was produced by Gazelle, a Toaplan offshoot.
