An isometric robot shooter across the Cosmic Interlace Grid

The briefing

About this game

BattleDroidz is a 1986 shooter set on the 37-hexagon Cosmic Interlace Grid. Earth’s dwindling resources demand a new power source, requiring a continuous route from one side of the grid to the other.

Choose from three ZMX robots, each with different strengths and weaknesses involving acid pools, gravity, and slopes. Within a one-hour real-time limit, navigate each landscape, collect four pods, and use the resulting teleport to liberate the hexagon.

Gameplay

  • Three-dimensional isometric viewpoint
  • Joystick-controlled robot movement and laser fire
  • Enemies produced by generators, which can be destroyed
  • Power-ups found on liberated hexagons
  • Grid map shown before each hexagon to help plan the route
  • Failed hexagons cannot be attempted again

BattleDroidz was developed by Starlight Software and published by Electronic Arts for Amstrad CPC, Commodore 64, Commodore C64/128/MAX, and ZX Spectrum.
