A medieval fantasy role-playing adventure in the Riftwar universe
The briefing
Betrayal at Krondor is a medieval fantasy role-playing game set in Raymond E. Feist’s Riftwar universe and co-written by Feist himself. The story follows Gorath, a moredhel renegade seeking to warn Krondor of an invasion, alongside Locklear and the young magician Owyn. Together, they must find a way to stop the moredhel leader Delekhan.
The campaign is divided into nine chapters, each with a primary objective while allowing freedom to explore the world and pursue side quests. The player’s party changes as the story progresses, with characters joining or departing according to its events.
Exploration takes place in a 3D first-person world, while towns are represented through still location screens. Combat uses separate grid-based screens and turn-based actions, including physical attacks, defense, and spellcasting.
Characters belong to one of two classes: fighters or magicians. Fighters wield swords and crossbows, while magicians use staves and spells. Four attributes—health, strength, speed, and stamina—shape the party, with stamina reduced by weapon use and magic.
Progression centers on skills such as weapon proficiency, bartering, and stealth. Skills improve through repeated use, and players can emphasize a skill to accelerate its development.
