Big Challenge! Dogfight Spirit

Big Challenge! Dogfight Spirit is a vertical scrolling shooter released by Jaleco in 1988 for the Family Computer Disk System. Players control a blue helicopter through missions set in different parts of the world, battling waves of enemy vehicles and ground turrets.

Power-ups are obtained by destroying small supply trucks moving across the screen. These pickups change the helicopter’s weapon, offering options such as a stronger forward-firing cannon or laser and weapons that fire forward and to the sides. However, the weapons are alternate firing types rather than simple upgrades, and careless play can even result in recovering the weaker starting weapon.

The game can be completed more than once, with enemies requiring more hits during later playthroughs.
