About this game

Bokosuka Wars is a 1982 strategy game that combines real-time battlefield movement with role-playing elements. The player leads an army in phalanx formation against overwhelming enemy forces while freeing and recruiting soldiers along the way.

Units can gain experience and level up through combat, but the leader must survive until the army reaches the enemy castle and defeats the opposing leader. Bokosuka Wars is recognized as an early foundation of Japan’s “simulation RPG” genre and has also been described as an early action RPG, a prototype real-time strategy game, and a reverse tower defense game.
