A 1982 single-screen action puzzle game from Hudson Soft
The briefing
Bomber Man is the first title in the Bomberman series, released in the UK as Eric and the Floaters. Developed by Hudson Soft and released in 1982, it establishes the series' bomb-based gameplay while differing considerably from later entries.
Across 20 single-screen levels, Bomberman navigates grids containing indestructible walls, destructible walls, and enemies called Floaters. The objective is to defeat every Floater and advance to the next stage.
Bombs detonate after a few seconds, destroying nearby walls and enemies. Destroyed walls can reveal hidden items, including treasure chests that award bonus points. Floaters change states represented by different colors, with some worth more points than others. Red Floaters pursue Bomberman and can be lured into bomb blasts. Certain stages also require Bomberman to drop bombs automatically.
