A balloon-catching platform challenge in the Gym

The briefing

About this game

Boxer is an action-platform puzzle game written by Wal Mansell and released by Acornsoft. You compete against a computer-controlled rival for the attention of a young lady by collecting balloons in a hazardous Gym.

Balloons are released at the bottom of the screen and must be caught when they become stuck in the rafters. Escaped balloons are awarded to your opponent. Collecting five balloons first increases your score by the displayed bonus and advances you to a more challenging Gym, while losing the race costs a life.

Timing is essential: touching a moving balloon, your opponent, or hazards such as boxing gloves, hammers, and dumb-bells causes you to fall. Three falls cost a life. You can score points by punching gloves and hammers, jumping over dumb-bells, and reaching the punch balls at the bottom of the screen.
