Brian Jacks Superstar Challenge

Brian Jacks Superstar Challenge is a multi-event sports game licensed by British judoka and 1972 Olympic bronze medallist Brian Jacks. Loosely based on the BBC sports programme Superstars, it challenges you to compete against Brian across eight events.

Events and scoring

The events are Running, Archery, Cycling, Football, Swimming, Squat Thrusts, Canoeing and Arm Dips. You compete in every event without a qualification score or time to beat, earning points based on your performance.

The game is divided into levels. Scoring more points than Brian lets you advance, while being outscored at the end of a level ends the challenge. Scores from completed levels are combined into a total.

Versions

The Amstrad and ZX Spectrum versions divide the events into two groups. Side A contains Running, Archery, Cycling and Football; Side B contains Swimming, Squat Thrusts, Canoeing and Arm Dips. After completing Side A, you can start again or load Side B. The Commodore 64 version includes a two-player option for competing against a friend.

Developed by David Wainwright and published by Martech Games, the game was released in 1984 for Acorn Electron, Amstrad CPC, BBC Microcomputer System, Commodore C64/128/MAX, MSX and Sinclair ZX Spectrum.
