Arcade racing built around speed, reckless driving, and spectacular takedowns
The briefing
Burnout 3: Takedown is an arcade-style racing game focused on dangerous, high-speed driving through city streets filled with traffic. Standard circuit races reward drifting, near misses, and driving in oncoming lanes, all of which help build boost for rapid bursts of speed.
The game’s central mechanic is the Takedown: shunting an opposing vehicle until it crashes. Takedowns quickly fill the boost meter and can add extra boost segments, extending its capacity up to four times its starting size. Opponents become more aggressive when rammed, with their hostility shown by a colored arrow above their vehicle.
Crashes normally cost boost and remove a bonus segment, but Impact Time lets players enter slow motion during the crash sequence. Using Aftertouch, the wrecked car can be steered into an opponent to score a Takedown and negate the crash penalty.
