Dreamcast shooter with charged attacks and marine combat

The briefing

About this game

Charge 'n Blast is a shooter in which players control one of three marines defending Earth from alien enemies. Its gameplay is similar to Cabal, with horizontal movement, enemy dodging, weapon selection, and charged attacks.

Gameplay

Choose between balanced marine Johnny Rock, faster but weaker Pamela Hewitt, or slower but stronger Nicholas Woods. Missions are divided into small areas that must be cleared before progressing, and each mission concludes with a boss battle.

Weapons are selected with the X, Y, and B buttons, while the A button charges and fires attacks. Different weapons are suited to different targets, including missiles for distant enemies and torpedoes for underwater foes. Charged shots deal more damage than continuous fire but require more careful aiming. The L and R buttons are used to dodge.

Modes

  • One-player mode
  • Time Attack
  • Two-player mode

Released for Dreamcast in 2001, Charge 'n Blast was developed by SEGA-AM2, Co., LTD. and published by Xicat Interactive.
