A time-limited arcade adventure across 32 hazardous kingdoms
The briefing
Cloud Kingdoms is an action-adventure game released in 1989 for Amiga, Commodore 64, and MS-DOS systems. Baron von Bansai has scattered Terry’s crystal collection across 32 kingdoms, and Terry must recover it by navigating hazardous overhead levels.
Progress requires collecting keys, avoiding enemy balls and bugs, and overcoming traps such as holes, directional arrows, slippery squares, and magnetized spaces. Power-ups, time boosts, and bonus fruits appear throughout the levels, while deaths return Terry to the start of the current level and consume valuable time.
The game has no conventional lives system. Instead, the entire adventure is governed by a strict time limit, with extra time awarded for completing levels. Its eight-level campaign uses a non-linear route, offering different stage choices as the journey progresses. Each kingdom has a distinct gameplay twist, including arrow-filled paths, icy movement, hidden routes, and key-collecting challenges.
