Construction, management, and ruthless urban strategy
The briefing
Constructor puts you in charge of a construction company competing to develop real estate before rival teams do. Starting with a headquarters, a small construction crew, and a repairman, you expand from basic wooden housing into more advanced buildings while managing workers, tenants, finances, and the demands of the Council.
Early development focuses on constructing a wood mill and housing for slobs. As your settlement grows, you can train workers and unlock a cement yard after establishing three different wooden huts. Later construction includes improved residences, schools, hospitals, parks, gadget factories, and other facilities that help educate, heal, and satisfy tenants.
Real estate development is only part of the challenge. Foremen can capture rival buildings, while gangsters, thugs, thieves, and other undesirable residents can disrupt competing properties, steal resources, or cause trouble for tenants. Police patrols help protect key areas from hostile actions.
Success depends on balancing construction, tenant satisfaction, worker availability, replacements, policing, and criminal services. Neglecting tenant demands can turn the Council against you, while excessive spending may lead to bankruptcy. Vacant homes can decay into rubble, creating additional problems for your company.
The difficulty setting affects map selection and the actions available to undesirables. Higher difficulty also requires activating more computer-controlled players, with up to three rivals in the competition.
