About this game

Countdown to Doom is a text adventure written by Professor Peter Killworth. After a spaceship crash-lands on the inhospitable surface of Doom, the player must search for the spare parts needed to escape before the wreck corrodes away in just 400 time units.

The game features many possible ways to be killed and was first published by Acornsoft for the BBC Micro in 1982. An Acorn Electron version followed in 1984 as a ROM cartridge for the Plus 1 expansion. A later 1987 edition from Topologika expanded the game by approximately 50% and was released for systems including the BBC Micro, Acorn Electron, ZX Spectrum, PC, Amstrad CPC, Amstrad PCW, Atari ST, and RM Nimbus.

Countdown to Doom is followed by Return to Doom and Last Days of Doom. It was also included with Return to Doom and Philosopher’s Quest in a compilation for Acorn RISC OS computers.
