A puzzle-platform arcade adventure with penguin scientists, shifting seasons, and time-machine chaos.
The briefing
Crazy Seasons is a puzzle-platform arcade game in which two penguin scientists must repair a malfunctioning time machine before a temporal anomaly disrupts Earth’s seasons. The game is set across single-screen levels and follows a playful premise inspired by the Amiga’s “Guru Meditation” crash screen.
Blue and green penguins navigate each stage while dealing with cute enemies that leave food and valuables behind when defeated. Rather than simply clearing the screen, the main objective is to arrange four blocks, each marked with a different geometric shape, into the pattern displayed at the bottom of the screen. The required pattern changes from level to level.
The blocks also serve as the penguins’ primary weapon: they can be pushed into enemies to defeat them. A special bonus occasionally provides a gunman hat and revolver, making it easier to dispatch opponents. Boss encounters appear every few levels and include foes ranging from farm animals to dragons.
Inspired by games such as Bubble Bobble and Parasol Stars, Crazy Seasons combines colorful arcade action with shape-arranging puzzles. Its soundtrack includes original compositions and 16-bit remixes of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons. Slapstick cutscenes appear between the different seasons.
Crazy Seasons was released for the Amiga in 1991. It was developed by Proxima Design and published by Idea Software.
