An educational puzzle game about diagnosing computer problems

The briefing

About this game

D-Bug is an educational children's game that combines a board-style puzzle with computer repair. Players control Charlie Fix-it, a character living inside the computer and fixing errors as they occur.

Gameplay

Each session begins with Gotcha!, a game where players move one square at a time while trying to capture all of their own butterfly or sailboat pieces and prevent the computer from capturing its pieces. Squares cannot be repeated, and the game ends when no moves remain.

When the computer breaks down, players must identify the problem from the way the game stopped working, locate the faulty component, find a replacement, and install it. Successful repairs allow Gotcha! to resume, while completing repairs automatically advances the player to more difficult levels.
