A timed Game Boy puzzle challenge built around pentominoes and symmetry.
The briefing
Daedalian Opus is a puzzle game set in the ancient land of Daedalus, where progress depends on solving increasingly difficult shape-based challenges. Players must arrange Tetris-like pentomino pieces to form a required shape.
The game includes 36 timed puzzles. Early stages use rectangular designs and provide only three pieces, with additional pieces awarded after completing certain levels. Later challenges feature more unusual forms, including a rocket ship, a gun, and enlarged pentomino shapes. The final puzzle requires using the 2x2 square O tetromino to complete an 8x8 square.
Each level’s timer continues until the puzzle is finished, and completed stages provide passwords for later access. Daedalian Opus was released for Game Boy in 1990 and developed and published by Vic Tokai.
