A 3-D Sega 32X space shooter from Frontier Developments
The briefing
DarXide is a 3-D space shooter for the Sega 32X, developed by Frontier Developments and published by Sega. Released in 1996, it was one of the last 32X games and was released exclusively in Europe.
Players control a lone starship tasked with protecting defenseless human miners and colonies. Asteroids split into smaller rocks when destroyed, while alien forces arrive in increasingly dangerous vessels. The game draws inspiration from the arcade gameplay of Asteroids and is notable for its use of texture-mapped polygons.
