A 1986 space rail shooter set in a political gladiatorial arena

About this game

Deathscape is a space “rail” shooter presented from an FPS perspective. In the Deathscape arena, gladiators from the Sol Federation and the Varg Empire are meant to settle political disputes through combat, but the Empire breaks the rules by sending hundreds of warriors.

The player automatically flies through a long tunnel while controlling a crosshair to aim at incoming enemies. Later encounters include giant vessels and the Varg mother-ship. The fighter has two independent fuel tanks and can be teleported outside the arena when in danger. The game uses a vector display and a 3D view.

Released in 1986, Deathscape appeared on Amstrad CPC, Commodore 64, Commodore C64/128/MAX, Sinclair ZX Spectrum, and ZX Spectrum. It was developed by Pete James, Starlight Software, and TAG, and published by Ariolasoft UK and Starlight Software.
