Undersea action-adventure featuring Ariel and King Triton
The briefing
Ariel: The Little Mermaid is an action-adventure game based in an underwater kingdom threatened by Ursula's curse. Players take the role of either Ariel or King Triton, with each character facing a different mission to rescue their friends, family, and the kidnapped merpeople.
Ariel battles bewitched sea creatures while Triton searches for his daughter. Across undersea mazes, players must avoid traps, angry sharks, sword-wielding skeletons, falling boulders, slimy eels, and other hazards. Encounters include the Molten Lava monster and the snake-infested Medusa area.
Sunken treasure chests contain valuable booty, while maps point toward imprisoned friends. Sebastian and Flounder can also come to the rescue in difficult situations. The adventure leads to a final confrontation with Ursula the Sea Witch.
Developed by Blue Sky Software and published by Sega, the game was released on December 14, 1992, for Sega Game Gear, Sega Genesis, Sega Master System/Mark III, and Sega Mega Drive/Genesis.
