A turntablism-focused music game from the Guitar Hero franchise
The briefing
DJ Hero is a music rhythm game developed by FreeStyleGames and published by Activision. As a spin-off of the Guitar Hero franchise, it centers on turntablism and features 94 remixes built from more than 100 songs across numerous genres.
Players use a custom turntable controller to scratch in time with on-screen cues, activate accented beats, and adjust the crossfade between two songs. The game includes a single-player Career mode, cooperative and competitive multiplayer, and selected songs that support play alongside a second player using a Guitar Hero guitar controller.
DJ and mix artists including DJ Shadow, Z-Trip, DJ AM, Grandmaster Flash, DJ Jazzy Jeff, and Daft Punk contributed to the game through development, remix creation, or playable avatars. DJ Hero was released in North America on October 27, 2009, and in Europe on October 29, 2009, for Nintendo Wii, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Wii, and Xbox 360.
