The briefing
In Dogfight 2187, you play as Rhett Dexter, a believer who steals an experimental interstellar fighter to search the Alpha Centauri sector for nine pieces of a warp field generator. The pieces must be delivered to a time-continuum hole to stop a possible invasion from another dimension.
The action is viewed from the cockpit, with instruments showing the Galactic Compass, radar, countdown clock, collected objects, fuel, shields, enemy weak spots, and weapon type. Waves of four enemy craft attack at a time, and defeated ships may drop generator pieces. Fuel decreases during combat, while enemy fire damages the shields; the game ends if the shields or countdown run out.
Up to two players can play simultaneously using a split screen, either fighting one another or cooperating against the computer. Players can carry two generator pieces at once, track objects and ships on the radar, and use gates near planets to restore fuel and shields.
