Rescue Donkey Kong in a classic four-stage platform adventure

The briefing

About this game

In Donkey Kong Jr., DK Jr. must rescue his father, Donkey Kong, who is imprisoned and guarded by Mario. The game features four themed stages and returns to the first stage at a higher difficulty after the rescue.

Gameplay

DK Jr. can run, jump, and climb vines, chains, and ropes. Holding one vine allows him to slide down quickly, while holding two lets him climb faster. He must avoid Snapjaws, Nitpickers, and Sparks, or use falling fruit to destroy enemies.

In the first three stages, the objective is to reach a key beside Donkey Kong’s cage. In the final stage, DK Jr. must push six keys into locks on the top platform to free his father. A bonus timer awards remaining points when a stage is completed, but reaching zero costs a life.

The game ends when all lives are lost. It also includes a kill screen at level 22, caused by an integer overflow in the scoring calculation.
