1994 fighting game for Sega Genesis and Mega Drive
The briefing
Dragon Ball Z: Buyuu Retsuden is a 1994 fighting game developed by TOSE and published by Bandai for Sega Genesis and Sega Mega Drive/Genesis.
The game uses a split-screen battle view that lets opponents remain visible while fighting at a distance. Its most damaging attacks are energy fireballs, which require a substantially charged, rechargeable KI bar and can only be blocked with a lengthy button combination.
The playable roster is based on the Freezer and Cell sagas and includes Son Goku SSJ, Son Gohan SSJ2, Piccolo, Vegeta SSJ, Future Trunks SSJ, Krilin, Recoome, Ginyū, Freezer, A-18, and Perfect Cell. Krilin, Ginyū, and Recoome make their first appearance in a fighting game here.
There are nine scenarios based on recognizable locations from the anime, including different versions of Namek such as its normal state and a version in flames.
