Action RPG with aerial combat, ground battles, and branching endings
The briefing
Drakengard follows Caim, a kingdomless prince fighting for the Union against the Empire. After being fatally wounded, Caim forms a pact with a captured Red Dragon, linking their lives and souls as he pursues vengeance.
The game combines three forms of combat: aerial battles fought from dragonback, third-person ground combat, and isometric Event Combat used primarily for story sequences. Caim uses weapons found during battle, with continued use and enemy defeats helping to level them up. Weapon choice also determines his magic.
Allied characters can be summoned during ground battles, while Caim may also call on the Dragon to attack enemies from the air. Previously visited stages can be revisited, and some become optional Expedition Missions with new objectives, enemies, and weapons.
Caim's choices, along with the requirements for those choices, lead to five different endings.
