Elnark no Zaihou

Elnark no Zaihou, also known as Treasures of Elnark, is a top-down action-adventure game developed and published by Towa Chiki for the Family Computer and Nintendo Famicom.

The player takes the role of a young man who travels to the remote country of Radea to rescue a famous explorer friend who disappeared after sending an uneasy letter about his expedition. The game features a light-versus-darkness system that must be managed to continue the adventure.

Gameplay

• Defeating hostile enemies and finding certain items increases the light level.
• Killing non-aggressive creatures, including fairies, and collecting other items adds darkness instead.
• Progress requires building the light meter and using a magical stone to reveal a hidden boss.
• After defeating the boss, the player can enter a dungeon and seek the necessary treasure.

Its top-down presentation is visually similar to Metal Gear.
