1985 arcade shooter set in an automated planetary refinery

The briefing

About this game

Erebus is an arcade shooter set on a giant automated refinery built on the planet Erebus. Hadean spacecraft are using the facility to produce a toxic nerve gas, and the player must destroy the invading craft to prevent catastrophe.

The game is viewed from above, with horizontal scrolling as the player moves left or right. Alien craft and their weapons must be avoided or destroyed, while collisions with scenery and buildings cost one of three lives. Each level is divided into sections around a dimension duct; flying over every section turns it green on the map and opens the duct.

Opening a duct leads to a bonus stage in which alien craft fly from the right side of the screen. Movement is limited to up and down, and the objective is to survive for 30 seconds before continuing to the next level.
