A bullet-heavy vertical shooter with character-specific attacks and time-bending abilities.
The briefing
Espgaluda is a vertically scrolling shooter from Cave, released in 2002 for Arcade, Cave, and PlayStation 2. Players choose between siblings Ageha and Tateha: Ageha moves faster and has a narrower attack, while Tateha moves more slowly but covers a wider area.
Mechanical enemies fill the screen with dense bullet patterns. A guard barrier provides temporary collision immunity and fires a powerful laser when released, with its remaining energy shown by a meter.
Kakusei mode changes the character's sex, strengthens their shot, and slows enemies and their bullets while preserving the player's movement speed. The mode consumes green gems, which can be replenished outside Kakusei mode by destroying enemies. If the supply is exhausted, enemy bullets move faster than normal.
Destroying enemies during Kakusei mode transforms their bullets into collectible gold ingots, providing a major score bonus.
