About this game

Every Second Counts is a quiz game based on the popular UK television show of the 1980s. It supports three couples or six individual players, with single players competing alongside a computer partner.

Rather than competing for points alone, teams win seconds. The team with the most seconds reaches the final round, where its accumulated time determines how long it can answer questions.

Game Structure

  • Two opening True or False rounds, with Player 1 and Player 2 answering in turn.
  • General Knowledge bonus rounds in which teams have ten attempts, with the bonus decreasing after incorrect answers.
  • Two further True or False rounds offering four points for correct answers.
  • A final round featuring a choice of two question categories and six questions answered within the team’s remaining time.

Successfully answering the first six final-round questions presents the team with a further set of seven questions. The final score is displayed on the Every Second Counts trophy screen. Six blocks of questions allow the game to be played six times before some categories repeat.

Release Information

Released in 1987, the game was developed by Consult Computer Systems and published by Domark and TV Games for Amstrad CPC, Commodore C64/128/MAX, and Sinclair ZX Spectrum.
