About this game

Famicom Mukashibanashi: Shin Onigashima: Kouhen is a command-driven text adventure released for the Family Computer Disk System on September 30, 1987. Developed and published by Nintendo, it follows Donbe and Hikari, two adopted children whose elderly guardians have had their souls stolen by oni.

Players progress by selecting commands, including Change Character, which switches control between Donbe and Hikari. Story progress is reflected through changes in the game’s graphics as the children pursue the oni and uncover the secret of their origins.

The original Famicom Disk System release used two disks issued on different dates. The second disk required completion of the first and was changed while the system remained powered on; later releases were switch-free.
