A six-event circus challenge against Fiendish Freddy

The briefing

About this game

Fiendish Freddy's Big Top 'O Fun is an action arcade game built around a desperate circus performance. The Big Top must raise $10,000 to repay the Big Greedy Bank, with money awarded by a jury after each act.

The game features six events: high diving, juggling, trapeze, knife throwing, tightrope walking, and the human cannonball. Each act uses different joystick and button challenges, while Fiendish Freddy introduces hazards such as fans, bombs, smoke bombs, saw blades, and other sabotage.

A practice mode allows individual events to be played separately. In the full game, up to five players can compete, but each player must reach the $10,000 goal independently.

Events

  • High Diving: Keep Horace spinning, perform the requested poses, and land on increasingly smaller targets.
  • Juggling: Help Jeffy Joe catch and juggle objects while avoiding dangerous items and protecting his act from disruption.
  • Trapeze: Guide Finola between swinging bars and through obstacles by building momentum and timing jumps.
  • Knife Throw: Pop balloons around the rotating, blindfolded Knancy without hitting her.
  • Tightrope: Keep Tony Tiptoe balanced while crossing the tent and deflecting some of Freddy's attacks.
  • Cannonball: Adjust the target and stop the rotating cannon at the right angle to launch Fernando safely.

Released in 1988, the game was developed by Gray Matter Inc. and Imagitec Design Ltd and published by Mindscape, Mindscape International, and Throwback Entertainment. It was released for Amiga, Amstrad CPC, Atari ST and ST/STE, Commodore C64/128/MAX, DOS, MS-DOS, PC (Microsoft Windows), and Sinclair ZX Spectrum.
