A sword-fighting quest through an ancient Egyptian desert
The briefing
Fighting Warrior is a fighting game set during the early Egyptian empire. Armed with a sword, you must cross a dangerous desert and reach a temple to rescue Princess Thaya from sacrifice.
The journey pits you against demons, warriors, gargoyle-like creatures, and increasingly vicious opponents created by the Pharaoh's court magician. Along the way, mysterious objects with magical powers can provide benefits—or harm—depending on how they are used. The quest concludes with a battle against the court sorcerers inside the temple.
Each fighter's life force is represented by a row of chevrons. Hits reduce this supply, and the first combatant to lose all of their chevrons is defeated. Magical arrows can also cross the screen, requiring you to duck or jump to avoid additional damage.
Movement includes jumping, ducking, advancing, and backing off. Directional attacks provide upper, middle, and lower strikes. Successful hits earn points, with additional bonuses available for quick victories, beneficial magic, and completing the game.
The scrolling landscape features Egyptian scenery, including pyramids and palm trees. The game was developed by Studio B and published by Melbourne House for Amstrad CPC, Commodore 16, Commodore C64/128/MAX, Commodore Plus/4, and Sinclair ZX Spectrum.
