Final Star Force is a vertical shooter that builds on the gameplay formula of the original Star Force with updated graphics, revised backgrounds, a redesigned title logo, and additional enemy types.

Players control either the Blue Nova or Red Nova space fighter. The game features three selectable power-ups known as Pulsators: A-Pulsator, B-Pulsator, and C-Pulsator. Its power-up system is similar to that of the 1990 arcade game Raiden, while the fighters' power meter charges automatically to increase their power.
