A grid-based arcade shooter about reclaiming enemy-controlled sectors
The briefing
In Fire Fly, you command the Firefly on a mission to destroy an enemy mechanoid system framework by reaching and eliminating its power source at the far right of a grid.
You begin in the dead zone at the grid’s far left and expand it by bypassing intrusion detection in unconstructed sectors. A cursor alternates between thumbs-up and thumbs-down symbols; firing when thumbs-up appears successfully takes over the sector, while a thumbs-down result scrambles the grid.
Occupied zones become two-dimensional shoot-em-up sequences. Move freely, destroy enemies, and manage ammunition that orbits the ship and takes time to return after being fired.
Each occupied zone contains four energy points. Collecting four zokas, or excess energy units, allows you to destroy an energy point by selecting thumbs-up as the cursor alternates between the two symbols. The cursor moves faster with each successive energy point.
Teleports provide movement between areas, but require three consecutive shots while the rotating ship points at green dots rather than red ones. Taking too much damage costs a life, and the occupied zone remains under enemy control. Destroying all four energy points converts the zone into part of the dead zone.
