Futuristic wall-racing across five worlds

The briefing

About this game

Firebugs is a futuristic racing game developed by Attention to Detail and published by Sony, released on August 3, 2002.

Choose from five racers—Gismo, Karrie, Zero, BOW, and Kami—each with a background story, unique special weapon, and unlockable alternate vehicle designs. Races take place across five themed worlds: Archipelago, Droid Gardens, Terrian Dunes, Sky Port, and Aerial City.

Racing and weapons

Vehicles use 360° aerodynamics, allowing them to drive on walls and ceilings. Racers can use offensive and defensive weapons, including missiles, rockets, cannons, turbo, shields, and a worm hole that teleports opponents. Weapons can slow vehicles but cannot destroy them. Completing a perfect lap awards special weapons such as the stasis beam and time warp.

Game modes

  • Championship: Three leagues with increasing difficulty, featuring qualifiers, one-on-one heats, and final races.
  • Practice: Test drive all 25 tracks.
  • Multiplayer: Race head-to-head in split-screen.

The soundtrack is provided by the Bomfunk MCs.
