About this game

Flip Out is a puzzle and strategy game for one or two players, released for the Apple II by Sirius Software in 1982.

Players take turns dropping colored balls into rows of flippers. The objective is to have all 10 of your balls reach the bottom of the screen before your opponent's balls do.

Gameplay

  • Balls landing on an upward-pointing flipper become stuck.
  • Balls landing on a downward-pointing flipper pass through and knock loose any ball stuck on the upward side.
  • A ball dropped onto a ball held by an upward-pointing flipper moves into the adjacent row and continues downward without dislodging the stuck ball.

The game ends when one player clears all 10 of their balls. Nine layouts are included: Cascade, Pyramid, Pyramid II, Board III, Split Board, Butterfly, Triangle, Hour Glass, and Hay Stack.
