Footballer of the Year

Footballer of the Year puts you in control of an aspiring striker starting with a Division 4 team. Your ultimate objective is to win the Footballer of the Year award.

You begin with a small amount of money to spend on goal cards, each of which creates a scoring opportunity during a match. Up to three cards can be played in a game, allowing the possibility of scoring a hat-trick.

Match Action

Scoring chances are presented from a first-person perspective. During a shot, you can move left or right before shooting while defenders close in. Penalty attempts focus on placing the ball past the goalkeeper.

Your performances affect your career. Failing to score enough goals can cost you your place in the team, while strong performances may earn you a transfer up the league. The Acorn Electron, BBC Micro, and Commodore 16 versions use text-based shooting choices instead of an arcade action sequence.
