Arcade shooter with hostage-rescue gameplay on Nintendo Entertainment System

The briefing

About this game

Freedom Force is an arcade-style shooter for the Nintendo Entertainment System, developed and published by Sunsoft in 1988.

Players control an anti-terrorist gunman tasked with eliminating terrorists without harming their hostages. The side-scrolling action moves from left to right through locations including a terrorist-occupied airport and a city street, with enemies and hostages appearing from windows and doors.

The game includes limited blood shown as small red marks on hit targets, but no gore. Power-ups—including energy, ammunition, and weapons—appear in a box in the lower-right corner and are collected by shooting it.
